When choosing trade names for businesses, there are specific considerations that vary for individual enterprises and companies.
For Sole Proprietorships:
In sole proprietorships, it is mandatory to use the individual's name and surname in the trade name. Additionally, the trader can use desired additions in the trade name, excluding expressions that might create a false impression about the business.
For Limited, Joint-Stock, and Cooperative Companies:
These types of companies must indicate their business activities in their trade names. They can also use desired additions in the trade name, excluding expressions that might create a false impression about the business. Additionally, the trade names of these companies must include the words "Limited Company," "Joint-Stock Company," and "Cooperative," respectively.
It is obligatory to ensure that the chosen trade name is not already registered in any trade registry. This can be checked through both the MERSIS program and the Turkey Trade Registry Gazette name inquiry section in accordance with the Ministry of Customs and Trade's Regulation on Trade Names.
The expressions indicating the business scope and company type, as well as the trade names, can be freely determined as long as they are in Turkish. However, certain words such as "Turk," "Turkey," "Republic," and "National" can only be used according to the decision of the Council of Ministers.
When a business has branches, the branch must use the trade name of its headquarters and indicate that it is a branch at the end of its name.
